BACK TO OTHER TRIPS
Nez Perce Forest
august 4
WEATHER: 68 degree high :) It rained all day and night in spurts, and it was chilly! We LOVED the change in the weather. No sun, water in the air instead of smoke. We almost immediately forgot the fever dream of the desert island we were just on.
We camped on a cool gravel side road off of the one 2-lane road in the whole forest: Route 12. It’s hardly a highway, it doesn’t even have streetlights and is in pretty bad shape in some areas. But it’s GORGEOUS. It spans about 175 miles with untamed wilderness on all sides. You truly feel like you’re OUT THERE because you are! Even highway 12 has barely any traffic - there aren’t even towns around here. Just a few small Forest Service campgrounds, 2 of which were closed because of a HUGE storm right before we came. Red circle is where we were:
You can pull off onto just about any road in this part of Idaho and there will be a fire ring. This area is FANTASTIC for impromptu camping.
The creek we drank from for the next 2 days :)
It was raining when we got there, so we put up the tarp! I can’t believe we have never done this before, it makes it so much more fun to sit under a shelter when it’s raining.
Why weren’t we doing this on all our camping trips?!
The clouds down the road changed constantly.
Forest litter.
Awesome huge fire ring.
