BACK TO OTHER TRIPS
Nez Perce Forest, Idaho
July - August, 2024
It was a long and hot trip to get to the Nez Perce forest… We flew into Spokane, and drove from there. I had no idea how many miles of rolling golden hills of grain there are on the outskirts of Spokane - we drove through the fields for 2 hours! Circled in orange is where we spent all of our time:
The Selway River
July 28
WEATHER: 93 degree high. We spent the first week on the mysterious and talkative Selway River. There are a few Forest Service campgrounds on the gravel road that skirts the river, all with just 5-7 sites. But I heard about one that was just 2 sites - “Twentyfivemile Bar” - and was hoping it was free. It was! There was a family of four at the other side of the camp, but they were LOVELY people who we really enjoyed getting to know.
Glad we missed this rock falling, it was cleared away by the time we left.
Our first camp :)
We drank from this river for the next 2 days… Delicious. The whole area had a recent forest fire, and it made for a fascinating landscape. You could see the constant haze from two fires that were near us. Sometimes it was difficult to breathe, especially when it got super hot.
A young bald eagle!
That night I started a fire with my Ferro Rod! The first time I’ve done that.
Aaron’s a pro…
