BACK TO OTHER TRIPS

Nez Perce Forest

august 1

WEATHER: 98 degree high. It was brutally hot. The kind of hot that makes you look at the position of the sun in the sky constantly to see when it will set. Mind bending heat. After a while it really gets to you.

In the morning I saw one duck on the river. And then another popped up, and another, and within seconds one was five! We saw a lot of birds on this trip, thankfully. And bugs! And frogs and snakes! True wilderness paradise.

The river cools you off, but the sun KILLS YOU.

Bear spray, bear horn. Camper’s best friends.

River shoe sunburn.

And then the obvious happened… After all this time under the sweltering sun, I got a bit of heat exhaustion. I was drinking a TON of water, but also peeing every 10 minutes. I started to feel dizzy and nauseous so I jumped in the river. Then I got out and couldn’t stop violently shivering. It was scary, but subsided after 15 minutes or so. In spite of all the upheaval, I couldn’t help but think I could get some good pics of this for future paintings. HAHAHA! I was MISERABLE but still thinking about the next series. Sad.

FILTHY. FERAL.

Our dinner table.

Our stick fires at the end of the night were short.
