Nez Perce Forest

< Back

august 8

It was our last day, so I decided to use the SUV for an off-road trail. It was terrifying. But my good ol’ car made it up to the top of the mountain and back again. TOTALLY worth the terror. And a lovely trail at the top - Beaver Ridge. What a surreal experience to walk the ridge of a mountain surrounded by HUNDREDS of miles of even higher mountains. And it smelled DELICIOUS. So pungent with flowers and trees and clean mountain air.

Classic forest, right out of a children’s book.

Tons of blueberries and huckleberries on the way.

After being by a rushing river 100% of the time for 2 weeks, being around no water is eerily silent. The sound travels in a completely different way. You can hear every snapping stick.

That was one hell of a storm!

King of the mountain with his throne…

… and the marks left on his arms from the throne haha.

Back to the site to work on the basket I’ve been working on. It sucks, but I made it and it was satisfying.

We love it here :)

I went to the river on this last night and there was a bald headed eagle perched on the tree in front of me. I took a pic, and then slid my camera into my pocket and just watched it. It looked at me for a while and then flew down the river on the thermals. Perfect goodbye.

Our last campfire :(

Our last sunset.
